Course Content
Component 1 is Physiological factors affecting performance. This part of the course is worth 30% of the overall grade. Topics that will be covered include applied anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology and biomechanics. The final exam for this section is a 90 mark paper that you have two hours to complete.
Component 2 is Psychological factors affecting performance which is worth 20% of the overall grade. This part of the course will cover skill acquisition & sports psychology. The final exam for this section is a 60 mark paper that you have one hour to complete.
Component 3 is Socio-cultural activities in physical activity and sport which is worth 20% of the overall grade. This part of the course will cover sport & society and contemporary issues in physical activity & sport. The final exam for this section is a 60 mark paper that you have one hour to complete.
Component 4 is Performance in physical education which is worth 30% of the overall grade. This part of the course will cover either practical performance or sports coaching and evaluation & analysis of performance for improvement (EAPI). This will be assessed by your teacher and then moderated at a later date. You will either compete in one sport, or coach a sport and then be graded by your teacher. The EAPI is a 20 minute presentation based upon you watching a performance for your chosen sport and then stating how a certain individual could improve their performance after completing a 12 week training program of your choosing.
Assessment Criteria
Three externally examined papers and two non-examined assessments. Components 1, 2 & 3 will be assessed in May/June in year 13.
Component 4 will be assessed at any point during the course, with marks submitted by the centre.

Achieve a Grade 6 in GCSE Physical Education and/or Grade 6 in Double or Triple Science
