16-18 study Programme

The requirements of the 16-19 study programme

All ESFA funded education for 16 to 19 year olds should be delivered as a study programme which combines qualifications and other activities, and which is tailored to each student's prior attainment and career goals. Every study programme must have a core aim. For the majority of students, this will be either the study of substantial technical, applied or academic qualification(s) or preparation for employment.

The Epping St Johns Sixth Form programme consists of a Level 3 programme. The Level 3 programme is composed mostly of academic qualifications and many students study facilitating subjects. There are a few applied courses on offer.

All our students study programmes which offer them breadth and depth. They take part in a structured and challenging learning programme that supports their development, and prepares them for higher education and the world of work.

Core Aims

  • All our students study three or four A Levels and/or BTEC subjects
  • They have the opportunity to study EPQ in Year 12

English and Maths: Students who have not achieved English or Maths in Year 11 at grade 4, are supported to do so in Year 12/13

Work Experience: Students undertake a week's volunteering placement at the end of Year 12

Students are supported to source work experience placements in Year 12

All work experience takes place with external employers and is planned, supervised and evaluated to ensure students develop real-world employability skills

Non-Qualification Activities:

Tutorial Programme (Year 12):

Students study our Tutorial Programme in Year 12 and 13 as a compulsory part of their curriculum

This covers the statutory guidance for PSHE and RSE from the government

It develops confidence, life skills and preparation for adult life

Service Above Self Programme:

Every student participates in weekly volunteering, charity or mentoring activities

This develops character, confidence, resilience and community responsibility

Speakers Programme:

Weekly speakers from industry experts provide students with insights into different careers and sectors

Bi-annual Post-18 Interview Days support students' preparation for university and apprenticeship interviews and assessment centres

Personal Development:
