ALL subjects promote reading. Just some do it more explicitly. Our challenge is to make it explicit across the curriculum. We got this!! 💪 upcoming CPD on direct vocabulary instruction and reciprocal reader will be gamechangers for us!

‘I had so much I wanted to write and I really enjoyed the documentary so I made an A3 poster’ I think that is my favourite quote of Reading Week so far. Reading around the curriculum really does inspire our students! https://t.co/hUKGwuHaGt

Enhanced Curriculum

The enhanced curriculum encompasses everything that happens at ESJ outside of lessons.  This includes clubs, day trips and residentials to name but a few.

School trips

In light of current government guidance, the school trips that we had organised have regretably been cancelled.  All parents have been refunded via Parentpay.

If you have any queries regarding your refund, please email Chris Skinner: skinnerc@bmatesj.org.uk

'Be Courageous... from home!'

Following the success of our virtual extra curricular programme launched over lockdown, we are continuing with 'Be Courageous... from home!'

This virtual extra curricular programme allows students to complete practical activities beyond the curriculum at home within their own time.  We feel strongly about helping students develop passion and intellectual curiosity along with talent and skills - the enhanced curriculum supports us to achieve this.

There are currently 26 clubs on offer for students to choose from with over 460 students signed up for at least one club.

To see the available clubs and sign up, click the link below:

Note:  club lists are refreshed each Friday.

For any enquiries about the extra curricular programme, please email:
