Conference in French helps students
Posted: 26th April 2019Attending a conference held in another language gave teenagers a boost before their exams.
Year 13 A-level French students from Epping St John’s School attended the Hodder A-level French: Literature and Film Study Conference in Conway Hall, London.
They had the opportunity to visit eight different sessions, ranging from exam skills to French books and films.
French and Spanish teacher Vincent Omilli, assistant headteacher for teaching and learning, said: “We are keen to enrich our students with opportunities such as these.
“Students had an opportunity to revisit and discover aspects of French literature and cinema which are key components and necessary general knowledge needed for their exams. The new A-levels expect a lot of cultural knowledge.
“Students had a really positive experience. Not only was the information relevant, but six of the eight sessions they attended were delivered in French which provided a fantastic opportunity to practise. It was a whole day where they spoke French and could understand everything; it really boosted their confidence.
“They came back feeling super motivated.”
The trip was so successful, the school is looking to return with Year 12 in future.
Stephen Hehir, executive head, said: “Opportunities to speak French through attending this day will enable all students to develop a greater love for the subject. Students will become more resilient in their understanding to not only help them achieve more highly in any upcoming examinations, but to speak more fluently in this language in the future.
“Well done to all students and staff connected with this visit.”
