Transition to ESJ
We know that deciding which secondary school to go to isn't an easy decision, and it's even harder with the current restrictions in place.
As we continue to follow government guidelines, we regret that we will not be able to open our Open Evening or Open Morning tours as we usually would.
The transition team thought long and hard about how we can still ensure that you get a flavour of life at Epping St John's even though you aren't able to visit.
We held a Virtual Open Evening for parents to ask questions and hear from key members of senior staff at ESJ. This was in place of the Headteacher's Welcome that you would usually hear at Open Evening.
Virtual Taster Days
We love welcoming students in to ESJ for the day to experience what a school day is like here. They meet teachers and learn within our state of the art facilities.
We have offered all of our feeder primary schools the opportunity to join our Virtual Taster Day sessions, which have been running every week of the Autumn term. These have included:
- French with Mr Omilli
- English with Mr Yerosimou
- Science with Mr Wilson
- Maths with Mr Ayebusi
- History with Mrs Wheelhouse
We have had 180 students logging in to complete these sessions each week with overwhelmingly positive feedback. We'd like to extend our thanks to all of the primary schools that agreed to be a part of this initiative.
This was our final transition event. This was our Virtual Open Evening... student takeover!
This event was designed entirely with our year 6 students in mind. It was a great opportunity for them to ask any questions that they may have about secondary school life at ESJ. These were then answered openly and honestly by our own Epping St John's pupils.
The evening also included a live video tour that has been filmed and edited by our Student Leadership Team to help students to get a feel for the building. We also launched our...
ESJ Minecraft Virtual Tour!
This allows students to tour our incredible school both within Minecraft itself or through via pre-recorded video. Our year 9 students from Computing Club have worked hard to create this - it's entirely student produced!

Deadline for secondary school selection: 1st November
Should government restrictions relax, we intend to open our doors and host face to face transition events later in the academic year.
