Parliamentary debate for students
Posted: 13th December 2017Future politicians fought it out in a parliamentary debating contest.
Annabelle Yaman and Milli Wilson represented Epping St John’s School in the Epping Forest Schools Parliamentary Debating Competition.
Hosted at the school, in Epping, the evening was held under the guidance of madam speaker Eleanor Laing MP.
Six schools – Epping St John’s, Roding Valley, Davenant, Debden Park, Chigwell and King Harold – debated for and against the motion: “This House believes the Government’s 0.7% ring-fenced budget for overseas aid should be reduced and the money saved should be spent in the UK.”
Emma Ruffles, co-head of school, said: “Epping St John’s started the debate for the motion. Such articulate students assertively made their points. It was closely contested and Milli and Annabelle made us extremely proud.
“What a great evening. We have politicians here in the making!”
