Teenagers explore career options

Teenagers explore career options

Posted: 14th March 2019

Teenagers are being inspired to strive for their chosen career paths.

Year 12 and 13 students at Epping St John’s School have received visits from representatives from the world of law, the NHS and the Ministry of Justice to discuss career options.

Students also visited Anglia Ruskin University to sample university life and to find out about student finances and the types of course available.

They sampled life as a science student, spending time in the university’s new state-of-the-art laboratories to examine different types of bacteria and learn about other types of disease and infection in a lecture style lesson. They also had a tour of the university.

Year 12 students attended a careers fair at Forest School to find out about 70 other universities and further education providers.

Natalie Revell, director of learning Year 12 and 13, said: “Since September, we have had several business professionals come in to school to speak to students about their chosen fields. We are planning for these talks to continue throughout the year.

“Giving students this sort of access to providers of their next step of education is invaluable and is allowing them to begin exploring their future ambitions and start asking those all-important questions.”

Stephen Hehir, executive head, said: “It is so important providing careers education to our students as this gives them the tools to make the right choices for whatever they wish to do in the future. It also gives them the motivation now to work hard in their subjects and to achieve their huge potential.

“Well done to all students and staff concerned.”
