Travel and Tourism BTEC

Choosing to study for a BTEC Level 3 National Travel and Tourism qualification is a great decision to make for lots of reasons. Studying Travel and Tourism will allow you to broaden your knowledge of the sector as well as deepening your skills. Your BTEC Level 3 National Travel and Tourism is a vocational or work-related qualification. You’ll have the opportunity to gain specific knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to your chosen subject or area of work

The travel and tourism sector is dynamic, exciting and provides a challenging working environment. If you are reading this book, it is likely that you are considering a career in travel and tourism and that you are beginning your studies of the sector. This unit aims to give you a sound introduction to travel and tourism so that you gain an overview of the various components and how they link together. You will also study the roles and responsibilities of travel and tourism organisations within the sector. You will learn about the development of travel and tourism, particularly from the 1960s to the present day. You will find out how changes in demand, new travel and tourism products and changes in the distribution of products have affected the sector. You will also look at the factors which currently affect the travel and tourism sector and the effects on development.

Universities typically regard the BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma as the equivalent to one A level

How will you be assessed?

This unit will be assessed by one or more internal assignments that will be designed and marked by your tutor. Your assignments will be subject to sampling internally and externally as part of Edexcel’s quality assurance procedures.
