Drama

Why study A-Level Drama?

Critically analysing and creating Drama based on the work of theatre practitioners both historical and present. Pupils will perform both scripted and devised work and analyse live theatre performances.

Course Content

This is a two-year course

Component 1:  Drama and Theatre

What is assessed?

  • Your knowledge and understanding of Drama and Theatre
  • Study 2 set texts
  • Analyse and Evaluate work of live theatre makers

Component 2:   Creating original drama (practical)

What is assessed?

  • Process of creating devised drama
  • Performance of a piece of devised drama

Component 3:   Making theatre (practical)

What is assessed?

  • Practical exploration and interpretation of 3 extracts from 3 different plays
  • Extract 3 is performance as a final assessed piece.
  • Reflect report analysing and evaluation theatrical interpretation of all 3 extracts

Assessment

Component 1

  • Written exam: 3 hours
  • 80 marks
  • 40% of A—Level

Component 2

  • Working notebook (40 marks)
  • Devised performance (20 marks)
  • 60 marks in total
  • 30% of A-Level

Component 3:

  • Performance of Extract 3 (40 marks)

Entry Requirements

Grade 6 in GCSE Drama with a grade 5 in English.
