Brexit artwork could win £1,500

Brexit artwork could win £1,500

Posted: 27th November 2018

A creative student from Epping could be in line for a £1,500 prize for a piece of artwork focusing on Brexit.

The Jack Petchey Foundation supports the Take pArt Challenge which invited students aged 11 to 14 across Essex and Greater London to enter the art competition.

They had to produce a piece of artwork on the theme of Evolve.

Year 10 student Zoe Warner from Epping St John’s School has been picked as a finalist for her work looking at how the Brexit vision may evolve.

Katie Driver, head of art, said: “Students’ entries could be paintings, drawings, collages, photos or prints. Zoe’s work was a combination of a few different styles which is one of the things which I think caught the judges’ attention, as well as the fact her message was very clear. We had a few very strong entries.

“Zoe is quite passionate about Brexit and decided to look at how Britain is evolving with regards to leaving the EU. I am not at all surprised she was selected. I am very proud of her.”

Zoe’s work will be displayed at the V&A Museum, in London, for the awards ceremony on November 29.

If she wins, she will receive £500 for herself and £1,000 for the school.

Stephen Hehir, executive head, said: “This is a fantastic piece of artwork that captures the mood of the nation in relation to Brexit.

“The art department is strong and congratulations must go to all students and staff linked with this project.”
