GCSE Results 2018

Posted: 23rd August 2018

Epping St John’s School has continued to improve on its GCSE results again this year.

The 2017 summer exam season saw students sitting the new grade 9 to 1 GCSEs for the first time in maths and English, with the majority of other subjects switching to the new format this year.

The 9 to 1 numerical grades do not map across in a simple way to the A* to G grades. A grade 9 is not comparable to an A*, for example.

At Epping St John’s there has been a 12 per cent improvement on the number of students achieving grade 5 – considered a strong pass nationally – and above in maths, going from 29 per cent last year to 41 per cent this year.

Overall, 61 per cent of students achieved grade 4 – considered a standard pass nationally – and above in English and maths.

Top performing students this year include –

Ruby Pradun – 11 subjects grade 7+
Georgie Thomas – 11 subjects grade 7+
Milli Wilson – 10 subjects 7+
Lucy Gallagher – 9 subjects grade 7+
Milli Johnson - 8 subjects 7+
James Pryor Smith - 7 subjects grade 7+
Alfred Asa – 5 subjects grade 7+
Oscar Hutchins – 5 subjects grade 7+
Tyler Kemp – 5 subjects grade 7+
Kevin Mukamanzi – 5 subjects grade 7+

The school became part of the BMAT multi-academy trust in November, with a mission to provide outstanding education. After-school and Saturday revision sessions were launched in all subjects to ensure students were able to achieve their very best.

Jo Daniels and Emma Ruffles, co-heads, said: “We are really delighted to see the school has continued on its upward trajectory with regards to student outcomes. More importantly, students have been given opportunities to thrive and excel and be prepared for the next stage of their educational journey. We are especially excited as many of these will be remaining here with us at Epping St John’s in the sixth form.

“We are so lucky to have such dedicated students, staff and parents/carers at Epping St John’s who really perform and work as a family.”
